Linux Kernel Race Condition
- Published7 May 2014
- Added to CISA KEV12 May 2023
- Remediation due2 Jun 2023
Description
The n_tty_write function in drivers/tty/n_tty.c in the Linux kernel through 3.14.3 does not properly manage tty driver access in the "LECHO & !OPOST" case, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and system crash) or gain privileges by triggering a race condition involving read and write operations with long strings.

How Secuno handles this
Secuno correlates vulnerabilities like CVE-2014-0196 against the real software inventory on every managed device, every day. Rather than a static severity, each match is scored in context: exploit availability, EPSS, the asset's exposure, and business criticality decide where it lands in the queue.
